From the Author
I felt moved to write this story by my love for the Umpqua Valley where I grew up, and my love and interest in Native Life (I'm part Osage). I camped by the South Umpqua Falls every summer growing up, and I wanted to write about people who loved the Umpqua River. The book is based on that region and loosely on the Umpqua Indians. "The River People" are a combination of their lifestyle and cultures of coastal tribes.
